“When Jeffrey first told me to choose a rest day, I thought he was crazy. Take a day off running? It sounded absurd to me. Nonetheless, I decided to give the concept a shot. That precious rest day combined with a variety of speed, strength and endurance workouts (with plenty of easy days to promote recovery as well), helped to transform my relationship with running from one of duty to one born out of love and pure joy.

As a coach, Jeffrey is super available and gives daily feedback on my runs. His pre-race consultation calls help convert performance anxiety into confident performance. Happy runners go faster and he is adamant about positivity. He encourages me to push myself while teaching me the importance of recovery. I will never forget our conversation on the eve of my first marathon. He told me to “smile every mile,” because running is supposed to be fun! I qualified for Boston that day and have since ran 2 ultramarathons. Practicing self-control as a dedicated runner is not easy, but Jeffrey is the perfect coach for someone with big goals that wants a long term approach.”

"Jeffrey Stern, a good coach that inspires, challenges, and helped me achieve great personal athletic performances in 2019. A little over a year ago, I was looking for a new coach to help me with an epic ultra running dream of mine; The Trans Atlas Marathon in Morocco, a 6-day high mountain stage race. My first attempt at the Trans Atlas Marathon in 2017, but was not physically, and mentally ready for the Atlas Mountain running conditions. 95% rocks! I knew I had to find a runner who knew how to run in the mountains, and could coach me as well.

I followed Jeffrey’s incredible mountain racing performances on social media, and I knew he would be a great runner to learn from. This past year working with Coach Jeffrey has helped me be strategic, methodical, and committed to my training plan being ready for my big Moroccan race. 2019 has been one of my strongest running years ever, but also the most challenging with a chronic injury, which I overcame for the race.

He is a wise coach who keeps me from figuratively straying from the trail with solid focus and commitment. He and I work via distance email and phone communications, as I’m based on the east coast. An athlete/coach relationship is synergistic, weekly planning, daily feedback, communications, and workout adjustments.  I’m super happy to be working with Jeffrey and look forward to continue working with him in the future."

-Anthony Rodale, 2019 Trans Atlas Marathon Morocco finisher

"Jeffrey is an excellent coach. From the start, he didn’t hesitate in pushing me and took me to the next level as a runner. He provided weekly training plans, gave me focused workouts and ultimately lead me to top finishes on distances that I had never even thought I could compete in. He made me feel extremely prepared going into every race not only physically but mentally, giving me a very helpful and informative pre race chat prior to race day. Jeffrey also made me feel very proud with every finish, no matter the results.”

-Melissa Flores, 2019 Angeles National Forest 50k 2nd place

“Jeffrey is a great coach. He coached me for my first 50k, 9 Trails and 100k all within 7 months. When life threw curve balls at my training he was great at adjusting my workouts to ensure I was ready for the races and not injured going into them. One of my favorite qualities in Jeffrey is his passion for running is contagious.”

"There's a misconception that the best coaches have it all figured out and just tell others what to do and how to do it. The truth, however, is that great coaches ask way more questions—of themselves, of their athletes, of other coaches—relative to the number of answers they provide."
